Anyone Got A Norinco Np29?

Hey everybody,
If anyone out there has got a 9mm Norinco Np29, I would be very interested in your opinion of them.
A few questions as well:
1) Are they a fairly accurate reproduction of a m1911a1 or close to it?
2) Are they a true m1911 clone and will I be able to fit standard m1911 gear to it such as grips, slide, hammer?
Also, has anyone got an image of the sight picture.
Thanks guys.

Hey mate,
I picked up one of the Norinco's a little while back. Great value for money as far as I'm concerned.

I've had zero issues with mine as its been 100% reliable.
As far as accuracy I've used it to shoot clay target fragments laying on the bank at the end of the 50yard mark, I've always been impressed how accurate its been for such a cheap 1911.
Other 1911 parts will fit as its a true copy of the 1911.

These are extremely popular in the US, base on forum traffic. The only part non traditional 1911, are the grip screws/housings, based on my researched.

New ones have been banned from import since the Clinton era but Norinco had a great reputation as a base to build on and are still sought after by many buyers.
Further North in Canada the NP29 sells out as soon as they arrive and along with the 1911A1 are extremely popular due to their low price and value for money. If you join http://www.canadiang...forum/index.php you will find a heap of stuff about them. Have a look at http://www.marstar.c...o/index-hg.shtm to see some of the Norinco copyshop products
I have a Norinco 1911A1 in .45 which I pimped out but I was surprised by the accuracy straight out of the box when I first got it (had had fifty rounds through it when I bought it). The trigger was heavy and the original factory GI style sights were tiny but it had no trouble with six inch plates at 25yds. Even a couple of fellow members expressed surprise after shooting it.
A fellow member has an NP29 and has had no dramas. Value for money they are great and you can add go faster parts gradually without breaking the bank. Only problem is most mags only hold 9 rounds from memory although 10s are available they aren't the most reliable. Wilson ETMs and Chip McCormick are supposed to be good 10 round mags though from what I have read.
All the parts are standard 1911 except the grip screw bushings btw

Yeah I have heard that they are quite accurate out of the box.
Are the factory sights a standard black sight or do they have a white dot system?
Also, do they have the problem of the slide not staying back on the last shot sometimes or is this purely due to cheap magazines?
Thanks guys

Mine just has basic black sights, no white dots.
The slide locks back fine with good mags, even the ones that came with my Norinco work fine.

Excellent.
I'm looking at getting one of these to make a relatively cheap clone of a true m1911a1 except in 9mm so I can still shoot it.
I'll be looking to replace the grips with some authentic looking wooden grips, original style hammer and possibly more authentic slide release. Do you think that it would be worthwhile to replace the sights or are they reasonably practical and authentic? (if you can call the original sights practical

a chap had one at a newcastle ipsc match. nearly every round out of it was tumbling.. When asked about it apparently the barrel was massively oversize so next to no spin was being imparted.. Judging buy the comments here that must not be the norm.
